A FOREST FOR THE TREES | ART SHOW

“A Forest for the Trees” transports audiences into an immersive art experience crafted by conceptual artist Glenn Kaino (pictured above) in 2022. Through this captivating interactive exhibition in Los Angeles, Kaino invites viewers to contemplate and redefine their connection with the natural world.

Kirill Yeretsky led his team of talented artists at Tomato Beach to craft images inspired by the visual style of traditional woodcut prints. These illustrations were laser-cut out of wooden panels by collaborators at Kaino’s workshop studio. Our work appeared in the inaugural room of the expansive 28,000-square-foot art exhibition in LA. Within this space, visitors were enveloped in darkness, encircled by striking silhouettes of trees. Colorful lights revealed our illustrations within the trunks of those trees in succession, synchronized with a compelling narration voiced by actor and activist Jesse Williams. Through this unusual medium, a story unfolded about a ceremonial tradition of the Native American Karuk tribe, juxtaposed with scientific insights into their efforts to maintain the health of California’s ecosystem through controlled forest burning.
